Froth Flotation

I remember walking
With my dad to see
A lime kiln to hear about
Zinc and extraction.
Bronze age volcanoes.

I remember the smell
Of zinc from the lab
They told me it wasn't
What I meant to do.
They are the experts.

I remember reading
About the zinc prices
And lost time accidents
They have these here too.
I've black safety boots.

In Texas he asked why
I hurt myself with
This strange dedication
I had no answer.
He's engaged now.

A prodigy returns
Just for the weekend
Sits outside in the rain
Contemplates zinc and
Plans her extraction.
