Two Edward Thomas Poems

Edward Thomas

Edward Thomas Among the Birds

Friendship of blackbirds.

The yellowhammer:
tiny flamboyance
on the path ahead.

A wren, welcoming.

Edward Thomas Takes Flight

He rises,
bird from this blasted field
that offers no hedge
in which to rest, no fence
on which to sing.

He flits.
