Best Friend
A lonely little book
is waiting for you.
Its days are long,
its nights are quiet.
The shelf it sits on
is crowded, but
the little book feels
lonely without you.
You’ll find it
in the dog-eared
secondhand
basement shop, six
litter-strewn steps
down.
You’ll know it
when you see it.
Pick it up gladly.
Take it home.
Let it tell you
its strange story.
Sing it a song.
Mark it well.
