Spontaneous Combustion
Some scientists still say it isn’t possible.
But, in Bleak House,
Mr. Krook spent his whole life building
a fire of himself.
It started in the hollow part where
his heart was.
Through the years it rolled
like fog down a river
over his eyes and throat.
Krook made one way of dying for himself:
He became greasy soot.
A pool of oil by the door.
Krook built the type of fire that must be
put out.
You throw a bucket of water upon it
to hear the hiss
and watch the smoke rise vicious.
