Cautiously Ecstatic
 
[The scientist] Petrov…was initially skeptical
…now is “cautiously ecstatic.”
                        On the muon experiments, April 2021
 
 
Like the first kiss from the first person
you ever thought you loved.
 
Like the multitude of signatures
that finally closed the deal.
 
Like the sonogram of an embryo
with its faintly beating heart
 
Or the x-ray of a pair of lungs
with nothing wrong anymore.
 
Like being certain about something
that no one can explain.
 
Like riding away on a waking dream
to the sound of a distant train.
 
Like the last word of the best poem
