Nagging Questions

Do dragonflies hide when it rains?
Where do birds retreat to die?
Why can’t I accept the pain
and give up asking how and why?

Is there anyone who can explain
why only human beings cry?
How much can one soul contain
before lifeblood goes still and dry?

Does a shooting star’s white glow remain
once it has streaked across the sky?
Of all the hormones in my brain,
Which ones are now in short supply?

If I fold nine hundred paper cranes,
will good luck simply pass me by?
Why can’t I accept the pain
and give up asking how and why?
