The Spoon: A Love Poem

The spoon is for stealing.
The spoon is for the tin pan,
to bang against it.
The spoon is to stir,
as coffee,
or trouble.
The spoon is to emulate
in bed, each of us
a spoon, fiting
so smoothly together,
you the serving spoon
I the tea spoon
or you the ice scream scoop
me the melon baller
or each of us
a tablespoon
of the same design,
made to lie
atop one another
rattling softly
in the silverware drawer.
