P-Nut Butter and Jelly

Big thick sandwiches
made of exploratory
unfolding morning

Smells from the hog lot
the bray of goats
and roosters calling out

Childhood never leaves us
nor the ghosts of tastes
and linger of old smells

All was wholesome and new
before we learned
to fear sugar and fat
