In the dark seas where big squid roam,
where haddock have their dismal home,
where eels entwine, where swordfish mate
and drowned men disintegrate;
where teeth attack and victims bleed,
there's no morality but need.
This realm of the halibut and cod
knows no day and knows no god.
It beats the shores that cramp it round.
Oh keep me, fate, on firm dry ground
