The Resurrected Poems
of Dante Gabriel Rossetti

Did half-remembered
half lines
eat away at him
for years, until at last

his manuscript saw daylight?
Did those buried rhymes and images
then rise up from the page, inspired
or shrivel into verse?

Well, either way, for once
surely, the critics had the right
to say, “Mr. Rossetti, Sir
these poems really stink.”
