Silence
Never let the silence start:
it grows until it breaks your heart.
The years will come, the years will go,
you can say yes, but also no
building a lonely, proud rampart.
Never let the silence start.
Never close down, never say
all we could be was yesterday.
Once you let the silence start
it spreads until it breaks the heart,
so never close down, always stay
open to each shared new day
for the years may come and the years may go
and where they go to we don’t know
but if you let the silence start
then we’ve already come apart
and loneliness will grow and grow
and cover everything, like snow.
