Small Life Paean
A paean to the small hard life of primitive farmers,
Hunters, peasants - the hard work to survive,
And raise replacements, and die.
But they (some of them) enjoyed the sunset, dawn and rain,
Others the beer and sex. Not a big life.
And we with our technology
Who sometimes enjoy the sunset, dawn and rain
Or else the wine, and sex, we live but little longer
And will look equal to them when
We have passed,
When future others lead far longer lives.
