After Illness

Rediscovering
normal pain –
stiff neck, sore back,
the odd migraine –

I tell myself
that’s how I know
it’s over and
I’m good to go

back to the world
in my usual role
at home, at work
and thus to stroll

into a future
now likely to be
a little bit less
temporary.
