Snappy

snapdragons
Antirrhinum majus

You chose us to impress him, we suppose,
your neighbour with his glorious display
of fuchsia – ooh! – and tulip – ja! – and rose.
I really like your flowerbed!, he’ll say
and things will lead to this and that. Haha!
Why not enrich your pretty pulling power?
Yes, pretty. And we move well too. Hurrah!
It’s just, we’re not a docile sort of flower
if that was what you’d wanted. Er, the name?
We’re feisty, slightly scary, in our clump.
We jest and jostle, irritate, inflame.
Perhaps we’ll bite your neighbour on the rump!
But if he’s one who doesn’t mind a snap,
he might just be your perfect type of chap.
