Watchman
(Isaiah 21:11)
Watchman, what of the night?
Watchman, what of the night?
It will soon be over
after hours of slaughter,
beast devouring beast –
darkness and its boast
will both soon be over.
Watchman, what of the day?
Watchman, what of the day?
It will soon be over
darkness will soon cover
earth and sea and heaven
in secure succession.
It will soon be over.
Watchman, where’s your light?
Watchman, where’s your light?
It went out long ago.
It served no purpose, though
it gave some people hope
the darkness could be probed.
It went out long ago
