Caring

Sometimes it’s hard to know just what to say,
An offer of assistance is too late;
You know the pain that’s suffered every day,
But stubborn independence means you wait.

It must be hard with hurt in every joint,
To get up and to face the day ahead;
There must be times you wonder what’s the point,
Just lie back down and spend the day in bed.

But this was never going to be your way,
If there’s no struggle there can be no gain;
It’s hard when others see the price you pay,
But know the help they offer is in vain.

A single mindedness can be admired,
But common sense must surely play a part;
When bodies hurt and every limb is tired,
A sharp retort can turn a loving heart.

Yet this was not the promise that was made,
For better or for worse was what was said;
Only a death will see this debt is paid,
Till then a rocky road for heart and head.
