Jaguar

The jaguar glides in silence through
The Amazon, her spots a screen
Allowing her to stalk unseen.
Her cubs stay for a year or two,
Absorbing lessons in the wild
Like any fearless hunter’s child.
So much of strength and speed has she
Concealed behind her gleaming eyes,
Her prey is taken by surprise.
Alone she reigns, supreme and free,
The largest living New World cat,
Unchallenged in her habitat.
We live a life of promises,
Of fears and doubting Thomases.
No wonder, then, in dreams we stride
With Jaguar Spirit by our side.
