Lyric and Narrative’s Romance
The narrative and lyric never wed,
a matter more of custom than of fate.
But each has held the other close in bed
and vowed there’d always be another date.
Though choosing lives as literary singles,
they both agree that nothing’s quite as hot
as scenes in which the lovely lyric mingles
with entertaining characters and plot.
If asked to use the terms of modern wits,
I’d likely call them friends with benefits.
