Chinese Boxes in Reverse

Come let us unwrap the New Year
Peel back the shiny silver
covering bright new prospects.

This year the ribbons are extravagant.
It seems we are unwrapping a New Century
as well.  A hundred years to reach
for ambitious futures.
To forget and to exceed
in the short run.

There is even more - a radiant New Millennium
to provide the gravitational pull
for each new century's progress. This requires
more careful unwrapping - a measured amount
each century's end  to see how effort materialized.

Then will come time for new strategies
keeping  excitement mounting
for the final view
when all beauty will be savored
and we know ourselves
to be beyond compare.  Standing there
with another new unopened package.
