Have You Heard?

In a democracy, anyone can be governor?
Sitting on a talk show, they can decide
to be governor, or just after a hot bath,
a successful batch of cookies.
Assuming you don’t have an outstanding
traffic ticket, you can be governor.

And when you are in office, fifty
thousand angry voters got even,
you can fall back on your wrestling,
set up new fights in the ring,
pursue your former career
applied to legislatures or balanced budgets.

Your State will be secure from terrorists.
they’ll be too busy watching you on
the late night show
And you will have
revitalized democracy.
