Creation, Assembly Line

Pinpoint the place where the nutrients flock
The hub of rapid cell division
Where DNA blueprints are negotiated
His or hers
Eye colour, dyslexia, resilience

Miss, when do they decide if it's boy or girl?

Envision the emerging shape
Bean-like, translucent
Like tissue paper veined with ink
The curled-up potential
Of fingers, toes and ears

Miss, does it have a head yet?

Picture the tender tube
The highway of provision
Red blood cells, laden with goodness
To dump into those novel arteries
Oxygen, protein and love

When are you due, Miss, when are you due?
