Dealing with Hard Times
Where is that
Deep-felt poem
That comes unexpectedly
From hard times
When leaves are all down
Scuttling across the sidewalks
So you can see the few
Bird nests clinging to
The barely left branches?
How do you bring
The song birds back
To need the nests
Next to the apartment
Signs announcing they are
Clearly leasing?
Must the poems come first
To seed the songs
So the hard times leave
The empty nests for
Some other year
Knowing that next year
The leaves are
Coming back?
It is worth a try
